Habitat for Humanity Durham - 2009
During 2009 The Redwoods Group became Green Plus Certified and a Certified B Corporation. Recently, Green Plus wrote a great article about how Redwoods makes an environmental and social impact in the community.
One of the most impressive statistics is our focus on community service:
Employees spend 40 hours of their work time each year in service to the community, building houses for the working poor, tutoring children in homeless shelters, serving meals at soup kitchens or shaving their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research
What Green Plus did not say is that these 40 hours are required by all employees. Each employee is evaluated on total community service hours in their performance review. This is meant to hold employees accountable and entice them to volunteer. Additionally, the company makes it easy to volunteer because employees are allowed to volunteer during work hours without using vacation time.
